Lunar Eclipse

Lunar Eclipse

The moon darkens as it moves into the Earth's shadow during a total lunar eclipse. The reddish color is caused by red light from the Sun passing through the Earth's atmosphere and illuminating the Moon. The Sun's blue light is scattered out by our atmosphere. During the daytime it is this scattered light that turns our sky blue.
